On August 5, 2026, the Tamil Nadu Government announced the creation of Arivagam, proposed as India's first dedicated Artificial Intelligence and Innovation City, during the presentation of the revised State Budget 2026–27. The government allocated an initial ₹5 crore to conduct a comprehensive feasibility study for the ambitious project.
Arivagam is envisioned as a world-class technology ecosystem featuring a dedicated AI University, advanced semiconductor testing laboratories, multi-domain startup incubation hubs, international skill development centres, and modern residential infrastructure. The initiative aims to position Tamil Nadu as a leading hub for artificial intelligence, deep technology, semiconductor research, innovation, entrepreneurship, and global talent development, strengthening the state's role in India's future technology landscape.
On the same day, Coimbatore entrepreneur Mr. V. ArunKanth launched Arivagam.city, a dedicated web portal created to keep students, researchers, startups, businesses, and the public informed about news, events, announcements, and the latest updates related to Arivagam City.
